Adson Forceps (AF) are similar to the other tweezers type forceps. They come in only 2 different lengths, 4.75” and 6”; however, they have a number of different tip configurations. There are the standard Dressing type forceps tips and Tissue type forceps tips as discussed under “Forceps”. Also, there are Adson's with DeBakey type tips, and Brown Tissue Forceps type tips.

Adson DeBakey is very popular for removing sutures. After the suture is cut with a scissors, a forceps is needed to pull the suture away from the tissue. What physicians do not like is a forceps that slips. An Adson DeBakey Forceps never slips because of the way the tiny teeth are configured.
